building.a.home is a social and inclusive housing project, designed for and developed in collaboration with UnLoc / Fundația de Abilitare Speranța. The project transforms reclaimed and refurbished shipping containers into small modular homes, adapted and equipped to meet all the needs of a home. The idea emerged from the desire to bring about change in the difficult process of deinstitutionalizing adults with disabilities and to provide an alternative to living in the segregated state-run institutions.
The current beneficiaries are individuals with an institutionalized past, neglected and in difficulty, living at the poverty threshold. Three residents have already started their independent life in building.a.home. The project aims to grow and be replicated both in Timișoara and in other cities, serving as a prototype for alternative housing that addresses the needs of at-risk individuals, those on the brink of poverty, migrants, students, and other social categories.
