UK Jazz Artist of the Year (2013), BBC Jazz Award for Best Album (Displaced), resident musician at Derry-Londonderry, UK City of Culture 2013 and.

Neil Cowley studied classical piano and played Shostakovich at the age of 10 at Queen Elizabeth Hall.

In his late teens Cowley moved into being a keyboardist for soul and funk acts Mission Impossible, Brand New Heavies, Gabrielle and Zero 7.

The trio played at some of the most prestigious festival around the world, just to name a few: Montreux Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival…

The Observer Music Monthly gave 5 stars and said: “When the energy of Neil Cowley’s piano comes booming out of your speakers it’s impossible not to think of early Clash.”

Manchester Evening News added: “Think punk’s energy and the grace of Billy Elliot… trance… funk… the most exciting band since Acoustic Ladyland.”

The Guardian: “…it’s hard to resist its eager warmth, and invitation to dance.”

The Neil Cowley Trio is not your typical jazz trio. A dazzling composer, pianist Cowley creates deeply engaging, and dynamic music that journeys between poetic and poignant, pomp and splendour to powerful rip-roaring riffs. It is instrumental music that references Debussy and Steve Reich as much as Spiritualized and Arcade Fire, and is powerful enough to break down standard perceptions of genre. It’s sheer emotion and energy touch lovers of all music.

For fans of contemporary jazz, a Neil Cowley Trio show is a most. For others, think of Adele’s Rolling in the Deep and we’re shure you’ll like him.

Neil Cowley Trio will play on JAZZ™ stage on the 10th of July 2014.
