Guitarist, keyboardist, and multi-instrumentalist Kurt Rosenwinkel is a highly gifted performer with a fluid, harmonically rich approach to genre-bending jazz and rock.
Kurt Rosenwinkel (born October 28, 1970) is an American jazz guitarist and keyboardist who came to prominence in the 1990s. During his twenty-five-plus year career Rosenwinkel has collaborated with Brad Mehldau, Brian Blade, Mark Turner, Joshua Redman, Chris Potter, as well as jazz icons, Joe Henderson, Paul Motian, and Gary Burton.
As one of the most influential and strikingly original guitarist-composer of his generation, Rosenwinkel takes a bold new musical direction with “CAIPI,” the debut release on his Heartcore records label in collaboration with Raz Daz Recordz.
Ten years in the making, this ambitious and deeply personal project shows the influence of Brazilian music, rock, and jazz.
Although Rosenwinkel played all of the instrumental tracks on the recording — along with amazing guest soloists Amanda Brecker, Eric Clapton, Mark Turner — the touring band is a unique group, selected by Kurt to bring his new musical direction to life on stage.
In his new role as a front man singing his own thoughtful, metaphysical lyrics, Rosenwinkel says, “writing songs with lyrics has been very much a part of my upbringing. With “CAIPI”, the music asked for that, it was just a matter of doing what the music needed.”
