“Proverbe”, the sophomore album of DUMItRIO, creates an entrancing ambi- ance with Romanian flavours, supported by narrative-intuitive compositions and spontaneous improvisations. Band leader and composer George Dumitriu, steered the trio into new musical directions by cultivating elements of oral and musical Romanian folklore into their repertoire.
George Dumitriu is a poly-instrumentalist performer and composer, internationally active in the fields of jazz, improvised music, contemporary classical and music theatre. He is known for his mastery on viola, violin, and guitar performed with acoustical beauty which often transcends through a unique approach to live electronics.
Mattia Magatelli is one of the most important Italian bassists of the young generation, having started playing double bass by himself. He studied at the “Civic school of jazz” of Milan, and further on he moved to Rome where he earned an IASJ scholarship offered by Siena Jazz.
Krajnčan started playing classical cello at the age of five, and jazz drums at the age of ten. His ability to play various music styles in groups that range from trio to big band, lead to his collaboration with several internationally acclaimed artists.
The three musicians have a long-standing history of performing together on stages such as Bimhuis Amsterdam, Konzerthaus Berlin, Flagey Hall Brux- elles, 12Points (Dublin), Akbank Jazz (Istanbul), Skopje Jazz Festival (Macedonia).
